Fans of Australian cricket are relieved by the news of Head’s homecoming. His hand is recovering more quickly than expected after being hurt by Gerald Coetzee’s rapid delivery in Centurion. Travis Head expressed confidence and claimed that the injury probably went better than he had anticipated.
Travis Head told cricket.com.au, “It’s progressing well and probably better than we hoped.”
For those in the know, the choice to forgo surgery turned out to be crucial. Without surgery, Travis Head might return to the squad in as little as six weeks instead of the rigorous 10 that surgery would have required.
We were informed that it would be at least six weeks with the splint before we could consider looking to play again when we chose against having surgery, which would have required a ten-week recovery.
“But we’ll just see how it progresses over the next few days and I’m excited by the prospect of joining the boys over there later in the week,” he said.
This intriguing possibility depends on Head’s performance in the upcoming days, which might pave the way for his comeback in the Netherlands game on October 25. But he knew that to meet that goal, everything had to run smoothly moving forward.
“Going by that plan, the Netherlands game will be just under six weeks from impact, which is a pretty aggressive date so everything would have to go perfectly from here to make that deadline,” Head stated.
No Australian player was able to reach a half-century during the team’s poor opening match of the World Cup. The team’s dismal performances highlight how important Head’s upcoming return will be. To start strong in this World Cup, though, is still a big job for Head.
