Travis Head, an Australian batsman, has surpassed Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne to take over second place in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, which is a career high.

With scores of 39 and 77 in the third game of their ICC World Test Championship series against England at Headingly, Head has closed the gap on Kane Williamson’s 883 rating points to nine points, despite the fact that the top seven batsmen are all currently competing in the ongoing Ashes series.

In the ICC World Test Championship Final against India last month, in which he made a crucial 163 in the first innings, Travis Head’s previous highest position was third, which he obtained. Following a three-wicket victory that helped them cut the series deficit to 2-1, many England batsmen advanced in the weekly update conducted on Wednesday.

Harry Brook has climbed to a career-high position of 12th after hitting 75 in the second inning; Ben Stokes, the captain, is in the top 20 for the first time since September after scoring 80 in the first inning; and Zak Crawley’s scores of 33 and 44 have propelled him eight spots to 48th.

Stuart Broad and Mark Wood have risen significantly in the bowling rankings. In the match, Broad finished with five wickets, moving him up four spots to sixth place. Wood, however, moved up nine spots to 26th place with a career-high 591 rating points from seven wickets, including a five-for in the second inning. After taking three wickets in each of his two innings, Chris Woakes has reentered the rankings in position 36.

Following his 142 runs in Afghanistan’s 2-1 series victory over Bangladesh, batsman Ibrahim Zadran has moved up 11 spots to take over the 16th spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz has rocketed up 37 spots to take over the 45th spot after leading the series with 173 runs.

Rashid Khan has moved up three spots to fourth, while Player of the Series Fazalhaq Faroozi has climbed 58 spots to 33rd after taking eight wickets in the series. After scoring 92 runs in the series, Liton Das for Bangladesh has risen three spots to 38th, and Shakib Al Hasan has reentered the top 10 bowlers.

Max D’Owd of the Netherlands (up five spots to 56th) and Gajanand Singh of the United States (up five spots to 59th) are other players to move up the batting rankings in the most recent weekly update, which also takes into account performances in matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 played over the past week.

Saurabh Netravalkar of the United States has moved up 13 spots to 18th place in the bowling rankings; Maheesh Theekshana of Sri Lanka has moved up 13 spots to 19th place; and Aayan Afzal Khan of the United Arab Emirates has moved up three spots to 46th place.
