Towhid Hridoy has been suspended for four games in the current Bashundhara Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2024–25, effective immediately, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Additionally, the board was fined Taka 10,000, or about 7,000 Indian Rupees, for violating the Code of Conduct while in charge of the Mohammedan Sporting Club during a match against the Gazi Group Cricketers.
Towhid Hridoy objected to one of the on-field umpire’s rulings during the Saturday, April 26 match at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Consequently, the player was charged for the violation by third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman, fourth official ATM Ikram, and on-field officials Moniruzzaman Tinku and Ali Arman Rajon.
Following the batter’s conviction for violating the BCB code of conduct for players and player support staff during the game against Gazi Group Cricketers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) on April 26, 2025, this sentence went into force.
Additionally, he had previously been barred from a game, but he protested and refused to accept the punishment. He faced charges because he disapproved of the umpire’s call during the game. He was dismissed, but he refused to get up and stayed on the crease.
“Towhid Hridoy chose to challenge the charge at a thorough disciplinary hearing and denied it.
But in spite of earlier correspondence, he did not show up for the hearing that was set to take place in the umpires’ dressing room,” BCB stated in a statement.
“With this most recent demerit point, Towhid Hridoy now has eight (8) demerit points overall, including seven (7) from prior violations. He will therefore be suspended for four (4) games, starting right away,” the announcement added.
A fine of Taka 10,000 (ten thousand taka) and the addition of one (1) demerit point were the sanctions imposed by Match Referee Akhtar Ahmad in accordance with Article 5.2.6 of the Code of Conduct.
According to Article 2.8 of the BCB Code of Conduct, the batter from Bangladesh was convicted of a Level 1 infraction related to “Showing Dissent at an Umpire’s Decision during a Match.” Furthermore, Level 1 violations incur a minimum penalty of a warning, a maximum penalty of Taka 40,000, and/or one (1) or two (2) demerit points for the player.
