Back in the top five of the Test Player Rankings is Head, Hazlewood.

In the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, Australia’s Travis Head has risen seven spots to fifth position after his game-winning century in the first Test against the West Indies. Meanwhile, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has moved up three spots to fourth place among bowlers with his nine wickets.

In the Adelaide Test, the opening match of Australia’s two-match ICC World Test Championship series, which they won by ten wickets, Head—who was named in the ICC Test and ODI Teams of the Year for 2023 earlier this week—scored 119 to win Player of the Match.

Head is currently three spots out of his career-high second rank, which he reached during the Ashes in July of last year.

In Adelaide, Hazlewood returned hauls of four for 44 and five for 35. In February 2017, he also reached a career-best second position.

After scoring 50 and 26, West Indies batsman Kirk McKenzie moved up 61 spots to 85th, while after an outstanding debut, Shamar Joseph broke into the top 100 in both the batting and bowling rankings. Joseph’s five-wicket haul helped him move up to joint-92nd place in the bowling rankings. He scored 36 and 15 while batting at number 11 to be placed joint-99th.

In the T20I Rankings, New Zealand batsman Finn Allen is still making progress, rising nine spots to seventh place with a 137-run innings in the third T20I of their five-match series against Pakistan in Dunedin, which the host team won 4-1.

Tim Southee has jumped to 11th place among bowlers, while other New Zealand batsmen who have moved up the rankings are Tim Seifert (up three spots to 20th) and Daryl Mitchell (up ten places to 27th).

After helping India defeat Afghanistan 3-0 in the Bengaluru encounter that was settled after two Super Overs, captain Rohit Sharma and left-hander Rinku Singh have also made notable progress. With 121 runs without a loss, Sharma has risen 19 spots to 49th place, while Singh has moved up to 31st place with 69 runs not out from 70th place.

A little more than four months before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who rose two spots to 19th position, and Ibrahim Zadran, who moved up nine spots to 26th place, as well as Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi, who moved up three spots to 21st among bowlers, are among the other players to climb up the T20I rankings.
