After 24 years, NZ did the impossible and made history by sweeping a Test series in India. The tourists had previously won the first two Test matches at Bengaluru and Pune, respectively, to secure the series going into this match. Remarkably, the Kiwis were the third side to accomplish the accomplishment of completely destroying the Men in Blue in their own backyard; the previous two being South Africa in 2000 and England in 1980.
India bowled out the tourists for 174 runs on the third day of the Mumbai Test, despite the tourists setting a goal of 146 runs.

In addition to suffering a heartbreaking series loss, India’s loss dropped them one spot in the World Test Championship 2023–25 points standings with 98 points and a PCT of 58.33.
