at the first Test match against the West Indies at Trinidad, Tony de Zorzi, the opener for South Africa, scored a crucial 78 runs. Prior to the series, the 26-year-old said he would find it challenging to fill the shoes of the now-retired Dean Elgar, but he was able to get off to a strong start and would like to keep up that momentum.
Zorzi expressed satisfaction with his batting performance and mentioned that he formed good partnerships with Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs on the second day of the first Test.
Tony de Zorzi held one end and amassed a 43-run partnership with Stubbs, who was playing his second Test match, after losing his opening partner Aiden Markram early.
After he left the field after scoring 20 runs, Bavuma took over and the two of them combined for 51 runs. South Africa scored 357 runs in the first innings thanks to a crucial 86-run effort from the captain. Zorzi claimed that the wickets were comparable to those in South Africa, where he was able to score those runs.
“I believed everything was fine. A little bit of kicking would have been nice. IOL cited de Zorzi as stating, “After Tristan (Stubbs) left, Temba and I had a great partnership there, so it was important for us to consolidate, so I’m happy with my contribution towards the team (total).”
In four-day cricket matches, there are a few coastal wickets that feature a similar playing pattern. I would say we have a few because it starts to play similarly even at Cape Town and Paarl, which is not exactly a coastal wicket,” he continued.

Notably, Jayden Seales claimed three wickets for West Indies, while Jomel Warrican claimed four. In order to exert more pressure on South Africa, they must now score highly at bat.
