In the ongoing IPL 2023, Virat Kohli scored a fifty for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Delhi Capitals, but his strike rate has been a topic of discussion this season. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the visiting team scored 181 after 20 overs thanks to the 34-year-old’s score of 55 off 46.
Former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody stated, in reference to Kohli’s pace, that the opener’s cricketing approach does not fit the modern game.
Moody believes that the need for an anchor no longer exists in Twenty20 cricket and that Kohli must have a strike rate greater than 150 in order to have a significant impact on the game.
“There will always be this argument because it is the Virat Kohli model. It’s his batting style. His career batting average is roughly 130. “His ability to continue scoring runs is quite remarkable,” Tom Moody said to ESPNcricinfo.
“Perhaps he also believed that while the other end was flying, it was his responsibility to fuel it. In my opinion, however, the game has progressed beyond this form of cricket, particularly with the introduction of impact players. This is why so many totals are exceeding 200. There is no such function. Without a doubt, we all need to be here at 150+ because we have the security of depth,” the 57-year-old added.
DC triumphed over RCB by seven wickets.
Even though RCB posted a respectable total, their bowlers were unable to defend because the Delhi Capitals’ batsmen were in excellent form. Phil Salt’s extraordinary innings of 87 runs off 45 balls set the tone for the middle-order batsmen to contribute and help the team triumph. David Warner, the captain, appeared alert as well, but he was unable to make an impact as he was dismissed for 22 off 16.
On the other hand, Rilee Rossouw played excellent cricket, scoring 35 runs off 22 deliveries while remaining unbeaten. DC successfully chased down the target with 20 deliveries remaining due to a solid batting performance. They are now ranked ninth on the IPL Points Table, while RCB remains in fifth place.
