Following Tom Curran four-match suspension for allegedly intimidating an umpire during a Big Bash League (BBL) match against the Hobart Hurricanes on December 11 in Launceston, the Sydney Sixers have made the decision to support their player.
The umpire orally told Tom Curran not to rush onto the pitch when he was doing run-ups prior to the match, according to a statement released by Cricket Australia (CA) and Code of Conduct Commissioner Adrian Anderson. But the right-arm seamer moved to the other end of the field and began a new drill. Curran was trying to stop the umpire in his tracks when the pacer allegedly motioned for him to step away. The umpire had to step aside to prevent a collision when the Sixers player eventually raced in.
Tom Curran was thereafter assessed four suspension points in accordance with clause 2.17 of the CA Code of Conduct and charged with a Level 3 offense.
A match referee or umpire may be intimidated, either directly or indirectly, by words or actions (including gestures), according to clause 2.17. The Sixers have chosen to exercise their challenge to the punishment, though. All parties have seven days to challenge the commissioner’s decision.
“Tom and the club argue that Tom did not intentionally or knowingly intimidate a match official, and we will use our right to appeal the ruling based on legal advice. Tom has our full support throughout this time, and we can’t wait for him to get back on the field. In a formal club statement, Sydney Sixers head Rachael Haynes stated.

Last season, the Sixers were just one victory away from a summit matchup. They were defeated in the Challenger by Brisbane Heat. The Moises Henriques-captained team has a good start this season with victories over the Melbourne Renegades and the Hobart Hurricanes.
On Friday, December 22, the Sixers will play at the legendary Sydney Cricket Ground against the Adelaide Strikers.
