According to The Guardian, Cricket Australia played a significant role in the agreement and would pay Murphy’s travel expenses during his time in the North East. He will collaborate with former Australian cricketers Marcus North and Ryan Campbell (director of cricket).

The spinner, who was born in Victoria, is expected to play at the start of the season before being freed if he is selected for the Ashes team. Prior to the Ashes, Murphy is the fourth cricketer from Australia to sign up for the County Championship. Notable players include Steve Smith, who will play three games for Sussex, Marnus Labuschagne, who will play for Glamorgan, and Michael Neser, who will play for Wales.
