You must triumph if you wish to be regarded as a champion: Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India, emphasized the need of pressure management in sports. In his view, success in sports has come to mean more than just showing up; it now equates with winning.

When asked who on the Indian team he coached could be a squash star, Sourav Ganguly responded. He quickly replied, in the middle of a heated discussion with squash champion Sourav Ghosal, that the great Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar has the ability to play squash well.

“I believe that Sachin Tendulkar‘s ball awareness would have helped him succeed in racquet sports. During the ‘Sourav Calling Sourav’ session at Rev Sportz’s Trailblazers 2.0 Conclave, Sourav Ganguly said, “He played table tennis extremely well.

Conversely, squash champion Saurav Ghosal was questioned about a cricketer he could identify with or relate to. “Rahul Dravid,” he replied. He said, “I connect with David because he seems like a really methodical person from the outside.

Ghosal elaborated on his understanding of Sourav Ganguly by mentioning a noteworthy accomplishment of the former captain of India in 1996. He also showed interest in learning about the cricketer’s early experiences in his career and how he prepared for those early days.

“In 1992, Ganguly was selected for the Indian team. After some time, he returned in 1996 and achieved consecutive hundreds in Tests. “I was curious about how he managed to stay prepared during that time,” Ghosal remarked.

Ganguly, the former head of the Indian Board of Control for Cricket, discussed pressure and emphasized how good it can be for athletes. The ‘God of Off Side’ himself, he provided insights into his own winning mindset, stressing the value of accepting pressure and enjoying it.

“Sports participation is no longer the focus. Sourav Ganguly declared to a roaring chorus of applause, “You have to win if you want to be treated like a champion.
