Prior to Prasidh Krishna, Sanjay Manjrekar asked the Indian team management to start Arshdeep Singh in the fifth Test match against England at The Oval in London on Thursday, July 31.
In the five-match series against England, Krishna participated in the first two Test matches but was ineffective. At an economy rate of 5.34 and an average of 55.17, he claimed six wickets. Arshdeep, on the other hand, has been with the team since the beginning of the tour but has yet to receive his first Test cap. According to reports, he was expected to play in the fourth Test, but a hand injury prevented him from doing so.
India should invest in Arshdeep, who is three years younger than Krishna and has the potential to be a long-term alternative for the bowling squad, according to Manjrekar.
Regarding the near-miss between Arshdeep and Prasidh Krishna, I would choose to side with Arshdeep. We’ve had enough of Prasidh Krishna already. “I’d like to go with Arshdeep because he’s someone who could provide you with long-term returns,” Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo.
Anshul Kamboj, who made his debut in the fourth Test, is under fire. Manjrekar declined to be too harsh of him, but the cricketer-turned-expert hinted that he could have to wait a long to play again for India.
It’s a bit harsh, but I don’t see Anshul Kamboj playing in the [his] second Test based just on his appearance rather than his performance, he continued.
For the introduction of Kuldeep Yadav, Sanjay Manjrekar bats
Manjrekar batted for Kuldeep Yadav’s admission alongside a number of specialists and supporters. So far on the tour, the left-arm wrist spinner has failed to establish himself in the starting lineup. But according to Manjrekar, Kuldeep Yadav inclusion on the team might have an impact.
“Kuldeep Yadav will need to return, and India will need to start believing in their batting lineup even without Rishabh Pant. We’ve discussed the times when India could have made a difference and won a match abroad, and in such situations, Kuldeep Yadav would have been quite helpful. There have been numerous instances in this series where you could picture him as a member of the Indian bowling attack. Thus, Shardul Thakur sits out while he enters. “It’s obvious to me,” Manjrekar said.
Additionally, Manjrekar voiced his worries about Akash Deep’s consistency and level of fitness. In the second Test, the Bengal seamer claimed ten wickets, but he was unable to duplicate that feat in the third. He was injured and missed the fourth Test.
Even if Akash Deep plays, it will be uncertain if he can duplicate his previous performance in this series. Therefore, I would assume that Akash Deep, even if he is 80–90% healthy, will carry a lot of potency in his bowling because we have seen him put in a strong performance one time and then have a different potency the next, but you have no choice but to play him,” Manjrekar stated.
