IND vs NZ: Tim Southee overtook Virender Sehwag's Test sixes tally

After tying former India opener Virender Sehwag for the most sixes in Test cricket, veteran New Zealand pacer Tim Southee put his name in the record books. During the eighth-wicket partnership with Rachin Ravindra in the first Test match against India in Bengaluru, Southee accomplished the feat.

When the score for New Zealand was 233 for 7, Southee came out to bat. From the off, the pacer attacked India’s bowlers and got to work. With Southee undefeated at 49 from 50 balls, the pair scored 58 runs in the last four overs before lunch.

Virender Sehwag’s Test sixes record, however, was broken by Tim Southee in the opening innings.

With his 91st six, Southee tied Sehwag’s record of 91 sixes in 104 Test matches. In Bengaluru he then broke the Indian veteran’s record and increased his total to 92. The pacer from New Zealand also overtook India’s captain Rohit Sharma, who has blasted 87 sixes in 62 Test matches.

India is still dominated by New Zealand in Bengaluru.

The first Test of the series started badly for team India, which is relevant to the current match in Bengaluru. India won the toss and chose to bat first, however their batting attack was not very effective. Rishabh Pant was the only batter to reach the 20-run mark, and five other hitters left for a duck.

After India was bowled out for a humiliating 46 runs in the first innings, New Zealand used a strong batting effort to put more pressure on the hosts.

New Zealand has lost three wickets and reached 180 runs at the close of the second day of the match. Tim Southee put on a fantastic batting display as Rachin Ravindra completed his century following Devon Conway’s 91-run innings. New Zealand had lost seven wickets and reached 345 runs by the time of lunch on the third day.
