Tim Seifert, a batter from New Zealand, has signed with the San Francisco Unicorns and will play Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States for the first time.
At San Francisco Unicorns, the wicket-keeper will team up with former Kiwi star Corey Anderson and opening partner Finn Allen for MLC 2025.
Despite not having a contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Seifert and Allen have acknowledged that they will be available for every T20I series that New Zealand plays leading up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. The batters, who were dubbed “New Zealand’s bash brother” for their explosive combinations at the top of the order, were part of the squad for the T20I home series against Pakistan.
Over the past two seasons, I’ve been watching MLC from a distance, paying special attention to some of the Kiwi players. With a team that is already loaded with talent and in a strong position to improve on last year’s performance, I am eager to get started this summer and add some more firepower,” Tim Seifert remarked.
With MI New York signing offspinner Michael Bracewell, who will work with his national teammate Trent Boult, the Kiwis are in high demand in the MLC. The Texas Super Kings (TSK) will be represented by left-handed opener Devon Conway and all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, who was sidelined for MLC 2024 due to an injury.
Adam Milne, a speedster, will join TSK as well. Prior to working with TSK head coach Stephen Fleming at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he was a member of the Washington Freedom team in the MLC 2023. Ross Taylor, a former Kiwi legend, has been appointed as the MLC 2025 ambassador for the Seattle Orcas. For the first two MLC seasons, the right-handed batter served as Orcas’ batting instructor.
After partnering with MLC, New Zealand Cricket became the first national governing body to make a direct investment in an international T20 league. In 2027, they want to launch a new team. The San Francisco Unicorns and Washington Freedom will play their debut game in Oakland during the 2025 edition, which will take place from June 13 to July 14.
