For the 2019 BBL season, Tim Paine has been appointed head coach of the Adelaide Strikers

Tim Paine, a former Australian Test captain, has been named the Adelaide Strikers’ new head coach for the 2019 Big Bash League (BBL) season. Less than two years have passed since Paine hung up his cricket boots as a professional.

It was recently determined by the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) to divide the responsibilities of state and BBL coaches. As a result, Jason Gillespie, who was Paine’s assistant coach the previous season, left. Paine was able to take on a significant coaching role as a result of the opening.

He has taken on a variety of coaching positions since quitting professional cricket, garnering invaluable expertise at all levels of the game. He gained critical insights from his recent experience serving as Gillespie’s assistant with the Strikers.

The former batter and wicketkeeper has an already stellar coaching background. He has helped Adam Voges with Australia A in the past and is currently working with NT Strike in the Top End T20 competition.

The former cricket player has also assisted in nurturing fresh potential by working with the women’s squad and being involved with the Under-19 system.

“I am honoured and excited by the opportunity to coach such a well-established and strongly supported club, and I can’t wait for the start of BBL|14 in December,” Paine was quoted as saying by.

For the Strikers, Paine’s appointment comes at a critical moment. The club matured late in the previous season, winning four games in a row to advance to the championship game. Before falling to the eventual winners, Brisbane Heat, in the Challenger round, they even triumphed against the reigning champions, Perth Scorchers, in the Knockout stage.

“After spending time in Adelaide last year, I believe the Strikers team and the whole of South Australian cricket has huge potential and I’m looking forward to being part of taking it forward and winning a few trophies,” he said.
