Tim Nielsen, a former Australian head coach, joins Pakistan as a high-performance coach for the Tests

Tim Nielen has joined the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the High-Performance coach for Tests, becoming another member of the team’s support staff. Together with Test head coach Jason Gillespie, Nielsen will try to help the Asian heavyweights pull off a miraculous comeback following their 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Australia earlier this year.

Pakistan’s next task is to play Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at home. For those who are unaware, Gillespie and Nielsen previously collaborated while living in South Australia. In February 2007, the former took over as Australia’s head coach from John Buchanan, a position he held until September 2011. 2010 saw the Men in Yellow win the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa, under Nielsen’s guidance.

Over his 56-year career, Tim Nielsen participated in 101 first-class and 49 List-A games.

During his first-class career, he scored 3,800 runs, and in the List-A format, he scored 639. Throughout his career, he wore the wicketkeeping gloves as well. Nevertheless, despite a few excellent results on the home circuit, the Englishman was never given the chance to represent Australia.

In preparation for the Test match against Bangladesh, Nielsen is managing the Pakistan Shaheen’s training camp by collaborating with Gillespie’s team.

The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi will host the first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh beginning on August 21. The second Test thereafter begins on August 30 at Karachi’s National Stadium.

As of right now, the Men in Green are ranked fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC) points standings for the 2023–2025 cycle. Bangladesh, on the other hand, is ranked second from the bottom, just above the West Indies, who are ranked ninth.

Earlier this year, Najmul Hossain Shanto and company played a two-match Test series at home against Sri Lanka. They were defeated by the Island Nation in both of their games. During the forthcoming Test series, Bangladesh and Pakistan will be keen to turn around their respective fortunes.
