The 2021–22 tour of England was one of the most memorable experiences for bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur.
India is prepared to play England in the forthcoming Test series, which will consist of five matches. Headingley will host the highly anticipated match on June 20. Naturally, there will be high expectations for the Shubman Gill-led team going into this series.
“I believe we won a few games in the ’21 series. We also had a chance to win the first one, but we were unable to do so because of the weather on the final day. However, following victories at Lord’s and The Oval, we returned for the fifth Test the following year. Speaking to the BCCI’s social media team, Shardul said, “Even though the series was level, it was one of my favourite memories and one of the best Test series that I’ve been a part of.”
Shardul was eager to take on the challenges presented by life in England.
“I think playing in this region of the world, where you have to overcome many obstacles, is really thrilling. Naturally, the first is the weather. It can be foggy or sunny at times, and as a player, you have to alter your style of play, whether you’re bowling or batting,” Shardul continued.
It would be enormous for the whole country if we could do this: Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur highlighted that a series victory would be huge for the nation and Indian cricket, and he was thrilled to be playing with up-and-coming players in the Test unit.
“Having that new enthusiasm on the team is beneficial. There aren’t many young people emerging, and fresh talent is always fascinating. You want to surprise them by showing them that we are here to perform, especially because the England team is now playing a new style of cricket. And winning a series away from home is always fantastic. It would be huge for the whole country if we could accomplish this,” Shardul Thakur remarked.
Shardul Thakur will be visiting England for the second time. His first occurred in 2021–2022, when the two teams were locked in a 2-2 series over five games. Nottingham’s opening match ended in a tie. To tie the score, England won the fifth game by seven wickets.
