Reports: Three matches between India and Pakistan at the Champions Trophy in 2025

In 2025, Pakistan will serve as the lone host nation for the Champions Trophy. Nonetheless, India’s attendance at the major event remains uncertain.

Back in 2012–2013, India and Pakistan participated in a bilateral series. Since since, the two nearby nations have only clashed during ICC proceedings.

Pakistan went to India for the ODI World Cup last year. Recent reports, however, seem to indicate that the BCCI is hesitant to send its players on a reciprocal trip. This may make it possible to host the Champions Trophy using a hybrid format similar to what the Asia Cup did the previous year.

After India declined to attend, Sri Lanka was appointed as a co-host, and the Men in Blue played their matches in the island nation. Originally, Pakistan was scheduled to host the Asia Cup alone. In the event that the Champions Trophy adopts a hybrid format, India will play its matches in neutral locations, with Pakistan hosting few matches.

As to the most recent sources, the Champions Trophy would be held in Pakistan next year with a budget of about USD 70 million sanctioned by the ICC. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) jointly created and filed the budget, which was examined and approved by Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, who also chairs the committee responsible for finances and commerce.

According to a source who spoke to Hindustan Times, “the approximate budget is around USD 70 million and only USD 4.5 million has been allocated as additional expenses.”

The provision of extra funding has sparked conjecture that the ICC may be bracing itself for contingencies should India decide not to visit Pakistan. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has asked his colleagues not to make any statements about India’s position in the midst of the rumours.

According to a PCB insider, “that is why there hasn’t been any statement or comments from Naqvi or any other board official on what will happen if India doesn’t send its team to Pakistan in recent days.”

There are also rumours that India and Pakistan would fight three times in the main event the following year. The two Asian giants will face off in the same group in the opening round, much like in all of the prior ICC competitions. Additionally, there is a chance that they will both advance to the Super Four level and rematch each other there. The summit confrontation may be the scene of the third encounter between the two decorated factions.
