An anonymous email threatening to blow up the Arun Jaitley Stadium was sent to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Friday. The Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) were supposed to play in the IPL 2025 on May 11 at the stadium, which serves as their home base.
However, because of the increasing tension along the Indo-Pak border, the event was put on hold for a week. According to the email, Pakistani sleeper cells are located all around the nation and would be activated for “Operation Sindoor.”
“Your stadium is going to be bombed. In India, we have a dedicated Pakistan sleeper cell. According to the Times of India, the mail stated, “The blast will be our retaliation for Operation Sindoor.”
An spokesperson from the DDCA said that they had notified the Delhi Police of the situation. Additionally, the official stated that an inspection had been conducted of the location.
“Yes, we have already forwarded the threat email to the Delhi Police after receiving it this morning. They took immediate action and inspected the location a while ago,” the official stated.
Following the terrorist assault, Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian squad, and Mohammed Shami, a right-arm bowler, also got death threats via email.
A week-long suspension of IPL 2025 following the Dharamsala match
The ongoing Indian Premier League was halted for a week by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) because of the growing border tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision was made following the cancellation of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs. DC game in Dharamsala due to an air raid alert.
Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, emphasised that the national interest should come before all other operations and stressed that the suspension was required. There are still 16 matches left in the 18th edition of the IPL, and the BCCI stated that a revised schedule will be released following a review with authorities and stakeholders.
