Pakistan won its first Test series since 2023 with a victory over England. Following a poor showing in the ODI World Cup, Babar Azam resigned as captain of all three forms, and Shan Masood was named Pakistan’s new Test captain. There were questions over Masood’s future as captain after they lost a series to Australia away from home and were humiliated by Bangladesh at home under his leadership.
But Masood and his squad ultimately delivered in the three-match series against England, supported by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The hosts fought back to win consecutive games and complete the series 2-1 after losing the first Test by an innings and 47 runs. Masood thanked the supporters for persevering throughout the difficult times after the game and expressed his wish that they will meet England in a longer series in the future.
It took a while for the first Test victory to come, but now the series victory. This is really important to me, the players, the coaches, and the management because they all did a great job. “This is a unique moment and you can’t take this off the team,” Masood stated during the post-match presentation. “The character says a lot.”
He went on to say, “This series victory is for the people of Pakistan who have suffered greatly alongside us. We are grateful to the English team. The matches between the two teams are always memorable, and I wish we played more, maybe a 5-match series.”
Having clear plans makes things easier: Saud Shakeel
Because of his outstanding century in the third Test in Rawalpindi, Saud Shakeel was named the Player of the Match. Pakistan took a 77-run lead in the first innings thanks to Shakeel, who largely dealt in singles despite the wicket being difficult to bat on. Speaking about his experience playing under such circumstances, Shakeel claimed that having a clear plan made things simpler.

Shakeel stated, “The situation and pitch were a little challenging, but it gets easier if your plans are clear. You have to back yourself.”
