“This is my World Cup final,” Nathan Lyon says as he prepares to face India in the World Test Championship final.

Nathan Lyon

Since almost a decade ago, Australia’s spin wizard, Nathan Lyon, has been a source of frustration for Indian batsmen.

The fact that he ranks second on the list of most Test wickets taken by an active international cricketer against India, behind England’s James Anderson, demonstrates the impact he has had over the years.

Before facing India in the World Test Championship final at The Oval, which is scheduled to commence on June 7, Nathan Lyon stated that it will be his world cup final, as he rarely plays white-ball cricket for Australia these days.

“This is my World Cup championship match. “Being a part of the 2019 ODI World Cup, where we weren’t good enough to beat England in the semi-final, it did feel like the World Cup dream probably slipped away,” Lyon was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo regarding the WTC final.

Additionally, the Australian international stated that he is anxious to take his 500th wicket in the longest format of cricket. The cricketer reflected on his voyage and disclosed that he has no plans to end his international cricketing career and that he believes he has more cricket in him.

“Yeah, I don’t like talking about myself in such a manner, but it is fairly incredible when you consider the names of those who have taken 500 Test wickets. I recognize my good fortune and am appreciative of my journey thus far. If I can check that little box over the ashes, it will be a very special accomplishment.

“If I consider what I’ve accomplished—the tests and series that we’ve won—I’ll realize that the end can sneak up on you quite rapidly. I still believe I have a lot of cricket left in me, and I know I want to accomplish some significant objectives in the many years to come. “When I do call stumps, which won’t be for a while,” Lyon added, “I’ll definitely refer back to it.”
