The WPL will be the following phase, and I couldn't be more thrilled about it: Miss Devine

Since women’s cricket players have never participated in player auctions, Devine thinks the WPL will significantly improve their game. The Women’s Premier League WPL, which is anticipated to begin in March 2023 following the conclusion of the Women’s T20 World Cup, would present a significant opportunity for the players, according to New Zealand captain Sophie Devine, who has voiced her delight about the prospect.

Devine further said that the WPL auction will be a special occasion for the female cricket players, who have never participated in one before. The Women’s Big Bash League and The Hundred are two other franchise-based events for female cricketers, however none of them have ever featured player auctions.

“The issue at hand is the big one. It’s a very distinctive experience. It is really large. You mention “glass ceilings,” and I believe the WPL will be the next step. It has me incredibly pumped. We have never experienced this previously as female cricket players. It’s going to be embarrassing on all levels. That is the word we have discussed “At the captains’ news conference prior to the T20 World Cup, the New Zealand captain remarked.

Devine believes that assigning a value to a name is not the nicest thing, but it happens during the auction and is what the players have signed up for.

“Some people will be picked up, while others won’t. And, to be totally honest, as a human, you will receive a value that isn’t the nicest in relation to what you are worth. However, it’s also a job for which we’ve applied “Added she.

The Kiwi all-rounder said that the Women’s Premier League would be a significant advancement for women’s cricket, but she later expressed concern that it will distract the players from the World Cup.

One would be stupid to believe that it won’t be a distraction, she said in her conclusion.

As a team, we’ve discussed how best to let people handle it is how they feel: Miss Lanning

Meg Lanning, the Australian captain who will guide her team to a title defence, commented on the WPL and said:

“I personally am really looking forward to it, and I know the girls are too. We are concentrating on what we are attempting to do here, which is what is most crucial. There are no right or wrong approaches to take. Everyone will handle it whatever they see fit. As Sophie pointed out, it’s a little weird, and we’ve talked as a team about trying to embrace that and understand that it’s actually a really exciting time and you don’t have a lot of control over it. We’ve also talked about letting people handle it as they believe is best. All we can do is wait and see.

Franchises will compete in the WPL auction, where each team must field a squad of at least 15 players and a maximum of 18 players. Each team would receive Rs 12 crore in funding. Adani Sportsline and Capri Global won the bid for the other two teams and gave them the names Gujarat Giants and Lucknow Warriors, respectively. Three current teams—Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore—acquired a franchise in the competition.
