Ben Stokes, the captain of England, praised Shoaib Bashir for his outstanding performance against the West Indies at Trent Bridge in the second innings. The 20-year-old off-spinner’s seven wickets in two innings helped England win the series.
Shoaib Bashir was outstanding as the West Indies attempted to chase a total of 385 runs in the second innings. In the second innings, Bashir bowled 11.1 overs, got five wickets, gave up 41 runs, and assisted England in winning.
Ben Stokes, the captain of England, praised Bashir after witnessing his performance. He also disclosed that Shoaib Bashir appears to have a clear plan of action and the purpose to take wickets at all times.
“He is extremely talented, and he is driven to improve; his goal is to always take wickets rather than just hold an innings. A young player winning a Test for England with his performance is truly impressive. Towards the end, he became quite emotional. For him, it’s a very cool day. He has demonstrated his abilities to the world,” Stokes was.
After seeing video footage of Bashir bowling to Alastair Cook on X, Stokes decided to include him in the England team for the first time. Even though Bashir wasn’t a regular for Somerset at the time, Stokes thought his skill set was good enough for a tour of the subcontinent.
Bashir confirmed Stokes’ faith in him with 17 wickets from three Tests in India, including five-fers at Ranchi and Dharamsala. He has since maintained his form. “The decisions we make are all based around not only how far we think talent can take a player, but if we think they’re good enough for international cricket straight away,” Stokes stated.

“Bash has taken seven wickets in the match, but the pitch this week didn’t really offer much for spin. He showed what he could do in India with conditions in his favour,” the man continued.
