What you should know about the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024 competition

The domestic cricket season in India is scheduled to resume on January 5, coinciding with the Ranji Trophy 2024. There will be 16 fights in the Elite Group on the first day of competition. As of right now, Saurashtra is the reigning champion, having won their second Ranji trophy thanks to a thrilling rematch of the 2019–20 final against Bengal and Jaydev Unadkat‘s outstanding performance.

After Bengal’s devastating loss, Manoj Tiwary decided to postpone his retirement and lead Bengal for one more season in an attempt to win the coveted championship. The team’s 1989–1990 campaign was their last Ranji Trophy winner. 38 teams are competing for the coveted crown, so as local talent gets ready for an exciting season of domestic cricket action, the tournament offers excitement and expectation.

The Ranji Trophy 2024 will begin when and where?

The forthcoming Ranji season is set to begin on January 5; the Plate final is slated for February 17 and the Elite final for March 10. The 48 locations for the elite matches will host the Plate League’s five venues. Two different finals promise to be an exciting season of Indian cricket.

When do Ranji Trophy 2024 matches begin?

Ranji Trophy games will start at 9:30 a.m. IST, just like they did last season. The toss will take place at 9 a.m. IST. While knockout stages last five days, league stage matches continue to be played over four days, offering an exciting variety of cricket matches throughout the tournament.

Where will Ranji Trophy matches be broadcast in 2024?

Jio Cinema will live stream the competition on mobile devices via Viacom18 networks on TV in India.

2024 Ranji Trophy Groups

Elite Group A: Services, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Manipur, Jharkhand, Haryana, and Maharashtra

Elite Group B: Bengal, Bihar, Andhra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Mumbai, Assam, and Chhattisgarh

Elite Group C: Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Karnataka, Railways, Goa, Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Punjab

Baroda, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry, and Uttarakhand comprise Elite Group D.

Plate Group: Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Nagaland

Which Ranji Trophy categories are elite and plate?

The 32 teams in four groups of eight compete in the Elite event to uphold the tournament’s standard. Each team plays seven league games, with the top two finishers from each group moving on to the quarterfinals. The bottom two teams from each group in the Elite division, taking into account both points and quotients, will be relegated.

Six teams compete once against one another in the Plate Championship; the top four advance to the knockout stages. A position in the Elite division for the following season is guaranteed for teams that make it to the Plate Final.

Which celebrities from India’s international scene will perform?

Players like Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, who represent Mumbai and Saurashtra, respectively, will be in the spotlight during the forthcoming five-test series against England in January and February. While Mayank Agarwal, the exceptional run scorer of 2022–23, leads Karnataka, Hanuma Vihari will lead the effort for Andhra. In order to balance their national obligations, Kuldeep Yadav and Rinku Singh may return to their home clubs. For Delhi and Vidarbha, respectively, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav are prepared. There will be further interest in the domestic cricket scene as Tilak Varma is expected to captain Hyderabad in the plate group when he becomes available.
