I'm content if the team wins and I don't get to bat: MS Dhoni

Due in large part to his reputation for consistently winning games for the team, MS Dhoni has become one of the most popular cricket players in the world. MS Dhoni has scored 4849 runs in 145 innings at an average of 51.01 in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) format, including two hundreds and 35 half-centuries. In run chases, he also stayed out a whopping fifty times, earning him the reputation of one of the world’s top finishers.

The cricket player did, however, make the unexpected admission that if he thinks the team is winning easily, he doesn’t bother to bat or contribute personally. He added that winning the game as a team is the main goal of team sports and that individual accomplishments are not very important. The veteran of the Chennai Super Kings, however, stated that this belief only held true when he was playing for India.

“I don’t crave challenges, but I do love them. I’m content if we win the game without any problems, even if I don’t get to bat. However, I am referring to India. All I want is for India to triumph. I don’t want the final over to end the match. What has happened—who has won the wicket, who has scored the run? I don’t care. It is our responsibility to win the match so that we can return home.

In an interview with Raj Shamani, MS Dhoni stated, “That’s what matters.”

“I would like to help if given the opportunity. 100% contribution is not required. Since I used to bat down the order, it should be whatever is crucial for the team. Therefore, it would be a huge contribution if I could score, say, 30 runs in 15 deliveries. “Anything where I can help,” the Ranchi native continued.

Regarding the 43-year-old’s performance in the 2025 Indian Premier League, the CSK player has been outstanding at taking wickets, and the seasoned gloveman has displayed some lightning-fast run-outs and stumpings. Although MS Dhoni hitting hasn’t been at its best, the tournament has only just begun, and he hopes to improve his batting performances in order to help the team captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad win their sixth trophy.
