KCAThe Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has been under fire recently for allegedly disregarding allegations of bullying and sexual assault against Manu M, a girls’ cricket coach, since 2018. The police in Thiruvananthapuram took him into custody. The Kerala Legislative Assembly had been informed of the startling development.
A number of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) complaints against the coach were made public by recent revelations. President Jayesh George of KCA has finally issued a comment regarding the case following much scrutiny. He acknowledged that the cricket governing body handled the situation incorrectly, but he gave the assurance that the body will support the victims. Furthermore disclosed by George is the impending cancellation of Manu’s coaching accreditation. Additionally, KCA has advised cricket associations all over India not to offer him coaching positions.
“The Association would not object to Manu and would firmly support the victims. KCA handled the situation incorrectly. We acknowledge that. We are not endorsing Manu’s behaviour. We’ve made the decision to revoke his coaching credential. He was more than just a girl’s coach. KCA will now require new coaches to have a police clearance certificate. About the necessary steps that are performed in the wake of the tragedy, Female Cricket cited George as stating.
George insisted that the coach was never shielded by the association and that the accusation only surfaced in June. With support from the Child Rights Commission, KCA has scheduled a counselling session for the girls training under M Manu. Additionally, a Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell is scheduled to be established. Additionally, KCA intends to mandate that at least one trainee’s parent be present at all training sessions.
For those who don’t know, Manu was employed at Thiruvananthapuram’s district cricket academy. Five more females came forward with similar accusations against the coach following his arrest.
