The absence of partnerships has been MI's major issue in the IPL since last season: Sunil Gavaskar

The Mumbai Indians (MI), who have won the Indian Premier League 2023 five times, have yet to record a victory. Before their next match against the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, April 11, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar identified the Rohit Sharma-led team’s biggest issue thus far in the current campaign.

The 73-year-old thinks Mumbai’s inability to win any game is due to their issues with the bat. He believes that in order to bring in a significant amount of money, the team needs to concentrate more on developing relationships. The former cricketer further stated that although it hasn’t been the case thus far, openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan should assume more responsibility and give the team a strong start.

“The lack of partnerships has been MI’s main issue since last season. You have a hard time making a lot of money unless you have significant partnerships. In this area, MI has been consistently seen to struggle. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma should have formed a quick but effective combination to start MI’s innings, but they didn’t, according to Sunil Gavaskar in an interview with Star Sports.

MI wants to achieve its first victory in the IPL in 2023.

Numerous injuries have also hampered the effort in Mumbai. Before the 16th edition, top pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson were ruled out, and Jofra Archer might not play in every game to manage his workload. Sandeep Warrier and Riley Meredith have been signed by the team to replace Bumrah and Richardson, respectively; however, they have yet to appear in a game.

Notably, they paid INR 17.50 crore to capture Australian international Cameron Green in the auction; nevertheless, he has yet to perform to the level expected in the league with the most money. Mumbai now has a lot of issues, but they have faced a position like this before, so one may anticipate a big recovery from the Rohit Sharma-led team. They stand a solid chance against Delhi because the local team has lost all three of its games so far in the competition.
