The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is reportedly considering to review the two-bouncer regulation in advance of the 2025 IPL and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Prior to being included in the IPL 2024, the regulation was trialled out in India’s domestic competitions.
The bowlers have benefited greatly from the second bouncer, which gives them an additional tool when facing flat wickets. In international cricket, bouncers are now only allowed once every over.
Additionally, a lot of discussion has been had regarding the impact player rule, with players and clubs having opposing perspectives. The two bouncer rule and the impact player rule may also be applied in the IPL, although it is unclear if they will be maintained in domestic competitions.
Due to numerous instances of extremely large totals being hit and chased in the IPL, the impact player rule has been the subject of intense criticism recently.
A state official was quoted as saying, “We understand that Impact Player and two bouncer rules are the key points, and no decision has been taken.”
In addition, the BCCI has not yet made public its decisions regarding the two rules. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy’s playing conditions were not disclosed by the board, although it did publish the rules in advance for a number of domestic competitions.

Early in September 2024, it is anticipated that the regulations and retention strategies would be completed. November 23 is the scheduled start date of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which will continue until December 15.
