As RCB defeated Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Ricky Ponting praised Virat Kohli’s efforts to win his first IPL championship. Virat became emotional as RCB approached the winning line, confirming the head coach of PBKS’ belief that winning an IPL title means a lot to the players.
According to Ricky Ponting, clubs like the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have won the IPL championship five times. He acknowledged, though, that winning the IPL is not a simple task. According to the Australian, winning the title requires a meticulously planned strategy.
“You can see that he was crying throughout that last over; that’s what it means to players and to everyone else. Mumbai (Indians) and Chennai (Super Kings) have both won it a few times, but it’s not an easy competition to win; you have to give it a lot of thought. After the IPL 2025 final, Ponting told reporters, “It’s not easy to win this thing.”
Test match cricket was my first love: Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting was clearly angry when RCB defeated PBKS in the footage, since his team had come so far and now had nothing to show for their efforts. After winning his first IPL title, he was questioned about Virat’s continued belief that Test cricket is the best in the sport.
Virat’s statement that the IPL is “five marks below Test cricket” made sense to the Australian. Whether teaching or commentating, he said his first love was Test cricket.
“I think I’m among the most ardent game purists still playing. Test match cricket has always been and always will be my primary love, whether I’m coaching or commentating. However, I completely grasp what he means. This is the closest I’ll ever get to playing in a Test match again,” Ricky Ponting continued.
