Tennis great Novak Djokovic defeated Australia’s Alex de Minaur on July 7 at Wimbledon 2025’s Centre Court to go to the quarterfinals. In the meantime, the stands were packed with celebrities, including Indian batsman Virat Kohli and his spouse, Anushka Sharma.
Notably, tennis great Roger Federer, West Indies legend Brian Lara, and England cricket talents Joe Root and James Anderson were all in attendance. Djokovic impressed Kohli, who is presently in London after retiring from Test play.
Following the game, the Indian superstar thanked the Serbian on Instagram. “What a match. The gladiator went about his business as usual. @djokernole,” he wrote. In response to Kohli’s compliments, Djokovic thanked the Indian cricketer and repeated the story. “I appreciate your support.”
I’ve been texting Virat Kohli occasionally for a few years: Djokovic
During the press conference following the game, Djokovic discussed his friendship with the Indian cricket player. They have texted a few times, he said, and they both respect and admire one another.
It was truly a privilege and an honour to hear Virat Kohli speak well of me, even though we have been texting occasionally for a few years and have never had the opportunity to meet in person. It goes without saying that I respect his entire career, accomplishments, and actions. I took up cricket. Even if I’m not particularly good at it, cricket is undoubtedly a hugely popular sport in Australia and India. To avoid embarrassing myself when I’m in India, let’s suppose that I’ll have an assignment to hone my cricket skills before I go,” he remarked.
During the match, which lasted more than three hours, Djokovic lost the first set 1-6 but recovered to win the next three sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. He came within three games of winning a record 25th Grand Slam title with this victory, which was his 101st Wimbledon victory.
