No fast bowler will ever again take more wickets in Test cricket than Anderson: Michael Atwood

James Anderson, widely regarded as one of the best fast bowlers of all time, has never shied away from shattering records. Anderson has aged like a wonderful wine, despite being forty years old. Anderson has taken 682 wickets in 178 Test matches. Former England captain Michael Atwood recently commented on Anderson’s longevity and stated that no fast bowler will ever take more wickets in Test cricket than Anderson.

“Anderson will never again take more wickets than any other fast bowler in Test cricket. Ever. There are records to be broken; quicker, stronger, higher, etc., but I am certain that Anderson’s unfinished and incomplete record will never be surpassed. As long as Test cricket is played (which may not be very long, hence a portion of the certainty), Anderson will continue to tower over the competition “The Times published a column by Atherton.
Anderson was recently regarded as the best Test bowler, prompting Atherton to lavish praise on the 40-year-old and predict that he will soon surpass the 700-wicket mark in Test cricket.

“It is a great accomplishment for anyone to be recognised as the best in the world, but to do it at the age of 40 in one of the most physically demanding sports is fantastic,” Michael Atwood wrote.

“The way the calendar has evolved, with Tests receding in favour of Twenty20, will also ensure that his record will never be surpassed. It took Anderson 178 Tests to reach his current wicket total. In the future, no cricketer will wear that number, and certainly no fast bowler.”

“Anderson’s average (25.94) is hardly remarkable, but his longevity in a sport that has gotten increasingly demanding is. He will likely surpass 700 Test wickets before he retires, and no other fast bowler will ever come close. Ever, “he added.
