The Proteas captain also praised Aiden Markram (136 in the second innings) and Kagiso Rabada (nine wickets in the match) for their outstanding efforts in the match that meant the most to the Rainbow Nation.

“These past few days have been very memorable; at times, it seemed as though we were in South Africa. We came in with a lot of faith and a lot of sceptics, but we’re happy that we performed well because we trained hard. For us and others back home, this is a unique event that will likely soak in over the next few days. I believe that as a team, we have been seeking this, and the enthusiasm was there. The sun has been on our side, and we have persevered, reached the doorstep time and time again, and endured heartbreak. “Hopefully, this victory is just one of many,” Temba Bavuma said following the victory.
