Due to a strained calf, Test captain Temba Bavuma will not play for South Africa against Pakistan in the World Test Championship (WTC). In October, the Proteas will play two Test matches in Pakistan. Rawalpindi and Lahore will host the games.
It is anticipated that Temba Bavuma will require six to eight weeks to recuperate from the injury he incurred during the recent white-ball tour of England.
In Temba Bavuma absence, Aiden Markram will assume leadership.
Injuries have been a problem for Temba Bavuma lately. The right-handed batter’s hamstring strain sustained during the WTC final kept him out of the two Test matches in Zimbabwe in June and July. He had been sidelined for two months prior to the WTC final due to an injury to his left elbow, a joint that has caused him pain on multiple occasions since a fracture in 2022.
Shukri Conrad, the head coach of South Africa, voiced his worries about the 35-year-old’s ongoing injury problems. Although Conrad acknowledged that Temba Bavuma age is not on his side, he maintained that the South African medical staff would be able to assist him in overcoming this agonising fight with injuries.
“I’m really worried about Temba. It’s not because he didn’t try; every series has been an injury. He is exerting every effort to ensure that he doesn’t sustain any injuries. He is unquestionably worth managing because of his adequate form. ESPNcricinfo cited Conrad as stating, “I am confident in the medical staff and Temba’s desire to get him fit, but age is not on his side, so it is a concern.”
Bavuma has amassed 3708 runs at an average of 38.23 in 64 Test matches. His top score of 172 against the West Indies in Johannesburg in 2023 was one of his four hundreds and 25 fifties. Earlier this year, he guided South Africa to the WTC championship.
