Under Temba Bavuma‘s guidance, South Africa has won every Test match. Earlier this year, the small batsman helped his nation overcome Australia at Lord’s Cricket Ground to go to the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Since 2010, South Africa has failed to win a Test match played in India. When the two-match series against India starts on Friday, November 14 at the storied Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Proteas are keen to end the protracted drought.
Immediately following his team’s triumph over Australia in the WTC final, Bavuma stated that winning on Indian soil would rank second in terms of accomplishments for his team.
“Obviously, nothing can surpass winning the World Test Championship. However, winning in India would come in second. Before the start of the series, Bavuma stated, “It’s something we haven’t managed in a long time, so it’s definitely high on our list of ambitions.”
Over the course of three tours, South Africa has lost seven straight Test matches in India. Bavuma is certain that his group has what it takes to make things better this time, though.
“We recognise the difficulty of the task. Some of us understand the hurt because we have been through it ourselves. Both sides have a lot of skill; India’s players are outstanding despite their relative inexperience, and our team is no different. “The guys are excited to compete with the best,” he continued.
Williamson’s fascinating counsel is revealed by Bavuma prior of the India Tests.
According to Bavuma, he recently spoke with Kane Williamson and requested for some guidance before the India tour. Last year, Williamson’s countrymen visited India and defeated the Asian powerhouses 3-0 in a Test series. Bavuma was encouraged by the former Kiwi captain to win the toss.
A few months back, I had the opportunity to meet Kane at an awards ceremony in Mumbai. He gave me some advice on how to succeed in India. He just added, “Make sure you win the toss,” without being overt. I’ve been practicing it, then,” Bavuma recalled, laughing.
