"We anticipate progress." Australia's cricket team promises to keep up bilateral ties with Afghanistan

Without a doubt, Afghanistan was the underdog in the just finished T20 World Cup 2024. The team, led by Rashid Khan, advanced to the tournament’s semifinals for the first time ever. In the Super Eight stage of the competition, the team was drawn with Australia and India. They defeated Australia and Bangladesh to go to the tournament’s semi-final, where they met South Africa.

One of their greatest victories throughout the competition was beating Australia, and Cricket Australia just made a statement indicating that they will try their best to retain bilateral ties with Afg.

Due to the continued situation in Afg, Australia has to postpone a men’s T20I series that was originally slated for August of this year. This was announced earlier in March 2024. This action came after they had previously decided to postpone an ODI series against Afghanistan.

“We look forward to making progress and will keep in touch and discuss with the Afghanistan Cricket Board.

They played with a lot of passion and had an amazing competition with amazing players. Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley was quoted by Cricketnmore as saying, “We have consulted extensively with stakeholders, including the Australian government, regarding our bilateral matches and have chosen to postpone our last couple of series with Afghanistan on human rights grounds.”

We are in constant communication and tight contact with the Afghanistan Cricket Board. Our goal is to see cricket become a global sport for both genders. In order to resume bilateral cricket matches with Afg in the future, we intend to make progress and will keep in touch and discuss with the Afghanistan Cricket Board,” he continued.

Afg made it to its first-ever T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final, making it a really historic tournament. The team intends to give it their all in the forthcoming bilateral series and will enter the ICC events with much more confidence.
