Tayla Vlaeminck, an Australian women’s runner who has endured a terrible run due to injuries, will soon have shoulder surgery. Her second consecutive WBBL (Women’s Big Bash League) season, which will start in a few months, will not include her because of the surgery.
Cricket Australia has confirmed that Vlaeminck would have surgery for her dislocated left shoulder, which she sustained while playing for Australia A in July. It is safe to assume that the 24-year-old’s recent years have not been very fortunate. She joined Melbourne Renegades in 2022, but will miss another WBBL season.
After suffering a stress fracture in the navicular bone of her right foot, which required extensive rehabilitation, Vlaeminck’s problems began. She missed the 2020 T20 World Cup due to the injury, and a recurrence of the injury kept her out of the 2022 ODI World Cup, the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the WBBL last season, and the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Tayla Vlaeminck has only participated in 33 games since making her WBBL debut in 2018, and after her shoulder surgery, she will have missed three full seasons due to injury by the time 2024 rolls around.

Shawn Flegler, Cricket Australia’s head of performance for women’s cricket, stepped up to provide his opinion after observing Vlaeminck’s struggle with injuries. They are disappointed for Tayla, he said, adding that there is no timeline for her recovery from the injury and that she won’t be ready for Australia’s October assignments.
“We’re disappointed for Tayla Vlaeminck ,” Flegler was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “She has worked hard to earn her spot on the Australia A tour. She has shown incredible resilience and perseverance throughout injury setbacks over the past few years.”
