Tamim Iqbal Unhappy With Heavy Political Influence

Tamim Iqbal, a former captain of Bangladesh, was one among those voicing concerns, asserting that the board president, Aminul Islam Bulbul, had recently ignored the board’s constitution. At a news conference on Sunday, September 21, a coalition of district and divisional sports organisers in Bangladesh, as well as representatives from cricket clubs and players, accused the government of meddling in the next Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.

On September 18, Bulbul wrote to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to report that a number of divisional and district sports associations had disregarded an order that required council members to be chosen from among the National Sports Council’s (NSC) ad hoc committees. Notably, the letter also said that the relevant associations had received their nomination forms again. Tamim, who is expected to run in the BCB elections, made it clear that he only wanted the process to be transparent.

“I had a meeting with the Sports Advisor a few days ago. ‘Brother, I don’t want anything from you,’ was all I told him at the moment. A fair election is the only thing I desire. Tamim told reporters, “I didn’t ask or demand anything more from him,” according to The Daily Star.

“Based on what we are seeing or what I began to observe after that. There is something wrong with what is occurring in the clubs as well as in the districts and divisions.

I think there is a lot of interference coming from different sectors of the administration,” Tamim Iqbal continued.

Additionally, Tamim Iqbal noted that the current procedure differs from established BCB procedures. In the meantime, the organisers threatened to stage protests and file a lawsuit if the list of council members that had already been given to the BCB was changed.

As per the BCB constitution, anyone who meet the eligibility requirements and have a connection to sports can be granted councillorship by the DC. For several years and several elections, this has been the situation. The formation of an ad hoc committee, however, caught my attention this time. Our constitution makes no mention of the requirement that it originate from the ad hoc committee,” Tamim Iqbal said.
