Four days after suffering a heart attack, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was released from the hospital on Friday and has since gone home. On Monday, Tamim had an angioplasty, and for the next four weeks, he will be closely watched by specialists.
Shortly after the toss, Tamim became ill while captaining Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP ground. He was brought to Savar’s KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home, formerly known as Fazilatunnesa Hospital, which is close to the ground.
Following the preliminary examinations, Tamim was flown from BKSP to a Dhaka hospital. However, he passed out on the way back to BKSP. Before the hospital could give shock therapy to revive him, the Mohammedan team physiotherapist had to conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Tamim due to his deteriorating health. The cardiologist performed on Tamim and implanted a ring in one of his arteries after he recovered consciousness.
Along with cricket players, coaches, reporters, and spectators who were all in disbelief at the news, Tamim’s family hurried to Savar to be by his side. After the procedure, however, Tamim recovered consciousness, and the physicians said that the next 72 hours would be critical to his recuperation.
Tamim Iqbal was sent to a different Dhaka hospital two days following his surgery. Tamim was released on Friday after that.
Tamim Iqbal continues to play domestic cricket despite having retired from international cricket in January of this year. In addition to hitting two hundreds for Mohammedan in this season’s DPL, he guided the Fortune Barishal team to their second BPL championship.
