Tamim Iqbal asks BCB to remove him from the central contract.

An official from the BCB said on Sunday that Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal has asked to not be included on the central contract list that will be released soon. The 34-year-old, who led the ODI team in the past, said he would evaluate his international career following a meeting with BCB President Nazmul Hassan. But the president’s engagement in the forthcoming general election campaign forced them to postpone their previous meeting.

Disagreements with the BCB hierarchy and team management led Tamim to decide not to play in the World Cup. As such, he was unable to play in the most recent home Test series against New Zealand and was not available for the current trip to New Zealand. With the BCB president’s consent, the team hopes to finalize the central contract roster by December 31.

“Tamim Iqbal asked us not to add him to the central contract list since he indicated he has his own strategy. To determine the next steps, he (Tamim) is expected to meet with the president of BCB following the national election. As reported by Cricbuzz, BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus informed the media that they would have to wait until then.

Tamim Iqbal claimed to be watching a “dirty game” in the BCB hallways.

The southpaw made very few appearances for Bangladesh in 2023, playing in just one Test and twelve ODIs. He last played for his country during the home ODI series against New Zealand in September, just before the ICC World Cup in India. He discussed his thoughts on the subject after being left off the Cricket World Cup 2023 roster. He had voiced displeasure and claimed that batting order demands and unreasonable fitness standards from a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board official had affected his decision to pull out of the World Cup.

In a tearful video that he shared on his Facebook page, Tamim called the circumstance a “dirty game.” Rather than live up to the unrealistic expectations established for the famous tournament, he revealed that he had told the official not to put him in the India squad. This disclosure clarified the complexities and controversies surrounding his exclusion from the World Cup squad.
