‘We want to win every game we play’- Tahlia McGrath shares Australia's approach after win vs India

At the current ladies’s T20 World Cup 2024, Australia’s ladies defeated India’s women with a resounding victory. Australia put up a strong showing with the ball after scoring 151 runs in the first innings of their match against the other team at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 13.

The Australians came out to defend the target and won the match by nine runs after limiting the Indian ladies to 142 runs. With their victory, the team ended their group stage campaign firmly established themselves at the top of the standings.

Tahlia McGrath, the stand-in captain, took front stage and emphasised the mindset that Australian women have been adopting for a long time. According to her, the team aims to win each and every match they play in the competition.

“Yes, without a doubt. Every game we play, we aim to win. We were aware that today would be a significant challenge. They attacked us with great force. Simply put, I am rather pleased of the bunch. At the end, we have our nerve. It goes without saying that no one enjoys getting hurt, especially major players. A captain’s injury is never easy. I was rambling a little bit [about captaining today]. “No, everyone has been fantastic,” McGrath stated during the presentation ceremony held after the game.

Tahlia McGrath also discussed the pitch’s characteristics during the India vs. Australia match. According to her, the surface was challenging, and she disclosed that she had several conversations with her teammates to improve her preparation.

It was a little challenging to evaluate. With a little speed, the ball was skidding forward. The only thing it was doing was grasping and clutching when you increased the rate. We believed that the second inning brought about a minor change. Many conversations took place.

[on par score] We were often discussing what we wanted to achieve or what the best course of action was. We were talking to each other a lot. “Anyone out there is aware that it has a lot of depth,” she remarked.
