'It's going to be pretty hard to take'- Tahlia McGrath dejected after semifinal loss to South Africa Women

Champions six times On Thursday, October 17, Australia lost to South Africa in the opening semifinal of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. The defending champions were asked to bat first after the Proteas won the important toss. With 2.4 overs remaining and eight wickets remaining, they chased the target down after containing them to only 134 runs.

The 2023 edition’s finals saw a fierce battle between the two sides, with the Australians defeating South Africa to earn three straight titles. Following that, the semifinal match was more than a knockout match for the rainbow nation, and Tahlia McGrath, Australia’s acting captain, claimed that the squad “didn’t show up” in the match.

“It will be somewhat difficult to handle. Tonight, we just didn’t really show up. In competitions such as this one, you just cannot afford to do that. Tonight, South Africa outperformed us, and they deserve all the credit. We have been thinking about this World Cup for a very long time. Over the off-season, we put in a lot of effort and made some adjustments. We were prepared for this visit. We felt like we had explored every possibility. “Just didn’t show up on the night,” Tahlia stated during the presentation ceremony held after the game.

South Africa gave the impression that the wicket was completely different: Tahlia McGrath

In the semifinal, South Africa was much at ease as Australia puffed and puffed their way to 134. In the powerplay, Australia scored 35 runs while the Proteas scored 43. Anneke Bosch, who was still unblemished at 74 off 48, gave it her best shot at the end. Despite the batting shortcomings, Tahlia gave South Africa credit for a strong batting performance.

We had a difficult time because South Africa bowled brilliantly, slowed down the pace, and made it difficult for us to take chances. We thought that 140 to 150 was par at the midway point, but South Africa’s brilliant batting made it appear as though the pitch was completely different,” she continued.
