The Indian players’ preparations to travel home were derailed by a hurricane warning, leaving them trapped in Barbados. The team that wins the T20 World Cup would have to wait a little while longer to enjoy their victory with Indian supporters.
On Sunday night local time, Hurricane Beryl (Category 4) is predicted to pass over Barbados, with its centre located around 80 miles off the southern shore. Right now, the Hilton Hotel is home to the Men in Blue. Originally, they had planned to take a charter flight back to India, but since Sunday night, the airport has been closed. South Africa, the runners-up, had already departed earlier on Sunday.
Following the winning team’s arrival in India, the board is organising a felicitation, according to BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
“We’re locked here too, just like you. We would consider the felicitation after the trip arrangements are finalised,” Shah told reporters in Barbados.
After the Indian team defeated South Africa by seven runs on June 29 to win a record-tying second T20 World Cup, Shah also announced a massive monetary award of INR 125 crore.

Following their victory in the T20 World Cup, India will go to Zimbabwe to play a five-match T20I series, with the first match scheduled for July 6. Against the African country, the skilled Shubman Gill will be leading a very inexperienced team. According to Shah, VVS Laxman will lead the squad in Zimbabwe, but starting with the next Sri Lanka series, India’s new full-time coach would assume leadership.

“We’ll be announcing selector and coach positions soon. After conducting interviews and narrowing down the field to two names, CAC will make its final decision once it reaches Mumbai. “A new coach from the Sri Lanka series will join VVS Laxman in Zimbabwe,” stated Shah, who is now in the Caribbean with the Indian squad that won the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Prior to the Sri Lanka series, Gautam Gambhir is reportedly dominating the competition to become the next head coach of India. WV Raman, a former head coach of the Indian women’s team, is another candidate for the esteemed post. The Indian squad will begin a three-T20I and three-ODI tour of Sri Lanka on July 27.
