"The wicket was stopping and keeping low, so tried to bowl in the right areas," Patel stated.

Before the T20 World Cup final versus South Africa, Axar Patel analyses the semi-final theatrics and says it "wouldn't have worked had I bowled quicker."

For the Indian team, Axar Patel has been a revelation as he has demonstrated his skill with the bat and the ball. When Pakistan’s top order fell, he bowled with precision, forcing Imad Wasim to play five dots in a row during the final overs. He had batted with a calculated approach. When he made a seemingly impossible catch to tie the score against Australia, his athleticism was at its peak.

In the semifinal match against England, the southpaw who was being passed over by the management because Ravindra Jadeja had the same skill set won the match. During the chase, just as Jos Buttler was feeling comfortable, he pulled him out and sent Jonny Bairstow packing. India felt they’d won when he managed to get Moeen Ali out. However, Axar, who was named Player of the Match, gave thanks to his ability to play a little bit slower on a slow Guyana track.

“It was the plan for me to bowl on the powerplay as I had done so in the past. To stop the wicket from stopping and staying low, try to bowl in the appropriate spots. I tried bowling slower in this match because the wicket was moving slowly, and it seemed to help. Had I bowled faster, it wouldn’t have worked and would have been simpler for their batsmen, Axar Patel stated, citing a remark from the RCB’s official website.

Our hitters informed us that it wasn’t an easy wicket: Axar Patel

Following India’s cheap losses to Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav got the team back into the match. Together, they moved India closer to the par total by scoring 73 runs for the third wicket. Suryakumar left the field after making a respectable 47 off 36, while Rohit struck 57 off 39. Axar emphasised the input and that the pitch helped him launch his assault.’

Our batsmen informed us that the wicket was difficult, therefore we thought 160 was a respectable score. Rohit and SKY’s partnership was amazing; they alternated strikes and occasionally scored boundaries. I’m going to celebrate this player of the match award first, not worry about Barbados right now,” he said.
