The Indian team broke the ICC curse and won the trophy for the first time since 2007 at the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024.
There were plenty of memorable events from the competition, but none of them compared to the Afghanistan campaign under Rashid Khan.
Afghanistan, the tournament’s underdogs, advanced to the semi-finals by defeating some of the top cricket teams in the world. They lost shockingly to South Africa in the knockout stages, which brought an end to their journey.
After being bowled out for 56 runs, Afghanistan gave up on winning the event after being unable to hold on to the pitiful total. Nonetheless, a few of supporters have raised concerns about the ground used for the opening World Cup semifinal match between South Africa and Afghanistan in Trinidad.
Chief curator Kent Crawfton of the West Indies leg recently came up and acknowledged that the curators deliberately tried to provide top-notch pitches to assist bowlers and hitters alike. He did concede, though, that the Trinidad pitch was ill-prepared.
“The first semi-final pitch turned out to be too one-sided; the goal was to create good cricket surfaces with something in there for bowlers to work with. The preparatory programme did not go as expected. As a result, it developed cracks that caused excessive variance in bounce, speed, and sideways movement,” Crawfton was cited by Cricbuzz.

In addition, former England cricketer Stephen Finn expressed his opinion on the subject. He felt that the pitch was not suitable for a Twenty20 match, but it would have been ideal for a Test match.

“It was absolutely awful. The ground simply started to deteriorate, making the T20 match not very exciting to watch. Finn stated on BBC Test Match Special, “It wasn’t up to scratch for a T20, but it would have been exciting on day five of a Test match.
