T20 World Cup 2024: NED vs NEP- Who said What?
Team Netherlands (NED) defeated Nepal (NEP), a rising Asian team, in their opening T20 World Cup 2024 match with the utmost poise in a difficult run chase. Amidst heavy rain, the game began without any overs, despite an almost 30-minute delay in the toss. Scott Edwards, the Dutch captain, flipped the coin and requested the Nepalese to bat first.

Nepal was unable to begin the first inning.

Interestingly, Dutch captain Scott Edwards chose to bat first after winning the toss and proceeded with the ball. The Men in Orange continued bowling in tight lines and regularly dismissed the Nepalese side; therefore, the decision was well-founded. They were outstanding and prevented the opponent from taking any chances, particularly during the powerplay phase.

Tim Pringle and Logan van Beek took early gains, while openers Kushal Bhurtel (7 off 10) and the more seasoned Aasif Sheikh (4 off 8) could not muster a strong opening partnership. Then, with a score of 53/4 on the scoreboard, Nepal was already behind at the halfway point. Aiming to lead from the front with the bat, Nepal’s captain Rohit Paudel (35 off 37) was the lone batsman who stood his ground and attempted to calm the ship. Therefore, the Asian side was folded for just 106 runs.

Max O’Dowd, the opener for the Netherlands, was outstanding at bat.

In response, the Netherlands didn’t start off well either, losing Michael Levitt early on when Sompal Kami caught him in the second over after Nepal scored first. But Max O’Dowd, the opener, had other ideas. He scored an incredible, undefeated half-century (54* off 48) to secure the victory for the Men in Orange. He and batsman Vikramjit Singh forged an important 40-run partnership, and Sybrand Engelbrecht’s 14 off 16 knocked in another four runs to put the Dutch team in a winning position. Ultimately, the Netherlands won the T20 World Cup 2024 match thanks to a run scored by Bas de Leede.

Meanwhile, here is what the captains of the Netherlands vs. Nepal T20 World Cup game had to say:

Winning Captain, Scott Edwards (NED): “Our bowlers were awesome up top. We got two or three wickets in the powerplay. All five of our bowlers were brilliant. Ideally we would have got the runs a little quicker, but it was great the way Max batted, and Bassie finished it off well. We’ve got to play consistent cricket right way through this tournament.”
Losing Captain, Rohit Paudel (NEP): “The conditions while batting were really challenging. Netherlands bowled really well. We could have stretched it a little more and had more partnerships through the middle. I was moving laterally and using the crease to upset the bowlers. After the start I got I could have done better. As a bowling unit we did really well. The last catch that I dropped was very well and we didn’t catch well. I want to thank the crowd. It felt like we were playing in Nepal. We are really grateful to them.”
Tim Pringle, POTM – We bowled well as a bowling group, brought the stumps into play and used our variations well. Speeds are crucial in this format, I like to mix as well.
