On June 3, at the renowned Kensington Oval in Barbados, Namibia and Oman engaged in a fierce match during Match 3 of the T20 World Cup 2024. Ruben Trumplemann wrecked havoc on Oman’s top order after Namibia elected to bowl first after winning the toss. During the powerplay, he secured the wickets of their top three hitters. With 22, 34, and 15 runs, respectively, Zeeshan Maqsood, Khalid Kail, and Ayaan Khan were able to score. Oman’s innings ended at 109 runs when all wickets were lost, as they were unable to muster a respectable total.
Against that, Namibia’s Nikolaas Davin and Jan Frylinck batted with determination; Frylinck’s 45 runs was the game’s highest individual score. But Mehran Khan got rid of Frylinck with just five runs still in the last over. The game went into an exciting Super Over as Mehran successfully defended the necessary runs. Since 2012, this was the first T20 World Cup Super Over.
David Weise, acting alone, crosses the finish line for Namibia
Namibia scored 21 runs in the powerplay thanks to amazing batting from David Weise. Zeeshan Maqsood and Aqil Ilyas struggled to chase down the difficult target, managing an only 10 runs, as Namibia won the match handily.
“I lost a few years tonight; I’m not sure how many years I have left in me. It was just that kind of emotionally taxing game. I understood what I needed to do in the Super Over and I had a feel for the wicket while he was bowling. The pitch was challenging, moved a little too quickly, and wasn’t what we had anticipated. We did a good job of adapting, in my opinion, and you had to spend some time outside for this pitch.

It’s difficult to determine what would have been a par total on this wicket if we had been pursuing 180 runs, so we would have had to attack without giving the pitch too much thought,” Weise stated after winning Player of the Match.
