T20 World Cup 2024: IND vs PAK, Match 19 Highlights

In an exciting match in New York, India defeated Pakistan by six runs in the 19th match of Group A of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

India, asked to bat first, found it difficult to counter Pakistan’s potent bowling attack. Early in the innings, Virat Kohli left the game after Usman Khan caught him off Naseem Shah for just four runs. Before Haris Rauf caught him, India’s captain Rohit Sharma scored thirteen runs off Shaheen Shah Afridi. India’s middle order was unable to offer much assistance, even in spite of Rishabh Pant’s heroic performance (42 off 31 balls). After failing to score many runs in the last 19 overs, India was bowled out for 119.

With three wickets apiece, Pakistan’s bowlers—Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf in particular—did exceptionally well. Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Shah Afridi also contributed significant discoveries.
Pakistan had a strong beginning but gave in to pressure.

Pakistan started their innings carefully, looking to chase 120 runs, but the early breakthrough of Jasprit Bumrah’s dismissal of Babar Azam placed them under pressure. After losing crucial wickets in the middle overs, Pakistan found it difficult to sustain the requisite run rate. However, Mohammad Rizwan patiently held the inning together with 31 off 44 balls. Pakistan’s innings ended at 113 for seven in 20 overs, allowing India to win the match with hard-fought dignity despite a late burst of boundaries from Naseem Shah.

We did a good job at bowling. I had too many dot balls and dropped wickets consecutively while batting. Babar

Following the game, Pakistan’s captain, Babar, commended his team’s bowling but acknowledged their batting shortcomings, citing a lot of dot balls and early wicket losses. Though he bemoaned too many lost opportunities, he praised the team’s strategy of consistent scoring. Babar emphasised that they must win their next two games and pledged to help them learn from their mistakes and make successful plans.

“Our bowling was excellent. lost consecutive wickets while batting and had an excessive number of dot balls. Normally, tactics were easy to play. Only hit the peculiar boundaries and rotation. But there were just too many dot balls during that time. Very little may be expected from tailenders.

First-overs were going to be used for batting. However, we failed to meet expectations in the first six again after losing one wicket. The pitch seemed respectable. The ball was starting to take shape. A few balls had more bounce, and they moved a little slowly. The remaining two games must be won. We will sit down and talk about our errors while anticipating the next two games,” he stated following the game.
