T20 World Cup 2024: BAN vs NEP, Match 37 Highlights

On Monday, June 17, at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St. Vincent, Bangladesh decisively defeated Nepal by 21 runs to secure their Super Eights spot in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit Paudel, the captain of Nepal, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh, and Paudel led Nepal in the opening as they routed Bangladesh’s top order. By the ninth over, the Bangla Tigers had lost their first five wickets for a mere 52 runs.

Despite the urgent need for a partnership between Shanto and Co., none of the Bangladeshi batsmen stayed long enough at the crease as they continued to lose wickets in unison. Shakib Al Hasan, an experienced all-rounder, scored the most runs (17) for his team. Following the completion of 14 overs, Bangladesh’s score of 69/7 put them in a vulnerable position. Bangladesh managed to reach 106 runs in 19.3 overs because to some important contributions from their tailenders, Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain.

The two bowlers that stood out the most were Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane, who both took two wickets. In the meantime, Paudel and Airee took a few wickets in a well-organized bowling performance from the Nepalese team.

Nepal had a terrible start because Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh were unable to form a vital alliance at the top. Without contributing much to the total, the middle order of Anil Sah, Paudel, and Sundeep Jora headed back to the pavilion. After seven overs, Nepal lost five wickets, leaving them with a 26/5 score.

Both teams were counting on one other to win the match, which was hanging by a thread. Together with the seasoned Dipendra Singh Airee, young Kushal Malla contributed 52 runs for the sixth wicket with a superb knock.

Mustafizur Rahman, a left-arm seamer, was the reason Malla and Airee found themselves back in the change room in less than two overs. In order to complete the equation, Shanto gave the ball to Shakib, their most seasoned player, with 22 runs remaining in the last over.

Nepal finished their campaign with a loss, but the all-rounder did not let them down as he claimed two wickets in his opening two deliveries. Taking four wickets in his four overs, Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the ball-wrangler par excellence. The Bangladeshi team won convincingly and guaranteed their place in the Super Eight round.
