T20 World Cup 2024: Mitchell Starc leaves Oman match early through injury worry

On Thursday, June 6, Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign got underway favourably when the Mitchell Marsh-led team faced Oman in the competition’s tenth match. While defeating Oman, Australia faced a significant setback when their star bowler, Mitchell Starc, was injured.

After bowling the opening delivery of his final over against Oman, the 34-year-old winced and clutched his calf. In the current T20 World Cup match versus Oman, Mitchell Starc left the pitch before finishing his over.

Cameron Green came in to replace the star pacer. As Glenn Maxwell came in to finish Starc’s treatment, physiotherapists did arrive to administer the on-field treatment to him.

Australia triumphed over Oman, scoring 164 runs overall while restricting Oman to 125 runs. This victory gave Australia their first T20 World Cup victory, which they achieved by 39 runs.

I didn’t want to take a chance because Mitchell Starc was only a cramp. Mitchell Marsh

Australia’s captain, Mitchell Marsh, spoke up following the victory to give an update on Starc’s injury. He disclosed that they did not want to take any chances and that the decision to remove Starc from the pitch was made out of caution.

“Starcy was only a cramp; therefore, there was no need to risk it. The Hindustan Times cited Mitchell Marsh as saying, “When Starcy says I’m okay to go off, you let him go off.”

Marsh also commented about how great it was to win and how the World Cup is becoming less modern and that high scores won’t be a frequent occurrence.

“Tight match. I’m glad you were able to win. There won’t be 200 different kinds in this competition. In this event, we’re kind of reverting back to the classic Twenty20 format,” Marsh remarked.

“Showcased his experience and took his time. Playing England is something we are excited about. Conditions are different here. Australia vs. Oman was a close match that was excellent for cricket. We are going to enjoy the sun that is here. The game is going to be fantastic,” he continued.
