Delhi Capitals KL Rahul Following his recent appearance in the ongoing IPL 2025, KL Rahul talked about his white-ball skills and how much he has progressed. Despite being among the top draws at first, the wicketkeeper-batter has also talked about how he had to drastically alter his thinking in order to return to his best in T20 cricket, a format in which he had recently suffered greatly.
In DC’s most recent match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), KL Rahul was the Player of the Match as he hit 77 off 51 deliveries to put the Capitals in a competitive first innings.
Following the match, the star cricketer spoke with DC mentor Kevin Pietersen about how much he has practiced his white ball skills with seasoned professionals like India men’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. The 32-year-old also talked about what made him decide to play cricket in a much more aggressive manner rather than focussing on taking the game seriously.
I’ve spent the last year or so honing my white-ball skills. A huge thank you to Abhishek Nayar. Since he joined the Indian team, I’ve collaborated with him frequently. We’ve been discussing how I can improve my white-ball game for hours on end. “I have discovered the enjoyment of playing white-ball cricket somewhere,” he said IPL, referring to the many hours he spent working with him in Bombay.
“I believe that somewhere along the line, I lost the enjoyment of hitting sixes and boundaries. My desire to immerse myself in the game was somehow ingrained in my mind, but I’ve since recognised that I must return. The game of cricket has evolved, and T20 cricket in particular is primarily about hitting boundaries. The star batter went on to say, “The team that hits more sixes and boundaries wins the game.”
“I’ll go back to enjoying cricket now. I’m not thinking too much about the game, about going in too deep, or anything like that. “Just look at [the] ball, try to be aggressive, put pressure on the opposition and the bowler, and just enjoy hitting boundaries,” the Karnataka native said in closing.
On April 10, KL Rahul will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in his next match.
At the legendary M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, the Rajat Patidar-led team will host the Capitals, putting him up against his old team. In this forthcoming match, the local lad hopes to contribute and keep his team’s winning momentum going.
