This decision was made just one month after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) divested him of his responsibilities along with other support workers. For India’s forthcoming five-match Test series against England, which starts on June 20, T. Dilip has been reappointed.
T. Dilip received a lot of accolades for his distinctive approach to giving the most underappreciated part of the game priority during his first term, which saw him emphasise the top fielders during the ODI and T20 World Cup. He has now been given a permanent position with the national team.
The BCCI has been looking for hiring a fielding coach from abroad, but they were unable to locate a qualified applicant.
T. Dilip will be going to England with the Indian team, and we have chosen to re-appoint him for a year. His current contract is for a year, according to a source in the Indian board who was cited by The Indian Express.
T. Dilip has been a long-time employee at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA), which is now the Centre of Excellence, and has worked closely with young cricket players including Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Dilip’s contribution to raising India’s slip-catching standards, which will be essential in English conditions, has been commended by experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
“Close-in catching is really challenging, particularly at short-leg. Good fielders are rarely found in those spots. It says volumes that Jaiswal himself offers to stand there. A lot of one-on-one work is also done by Dilip Sir. “It’s regrettable that his name hasn’t received more attention,” Ashwin remarked.
Gill is unlikely to attend the second tour match.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir, fielding coach T. Dilip, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will accompany the Indian squad on their trip to England. Before joining the senior squad, the former Dutch cricketer was asked to help the India A team in their two games against the England Lions. Notably, Hrishikesh Kanitkar is coaching India A on the UK visit.
Shubman Gill, the Test captain of India, is probably going to miss the second tour game at Northampton on June 6. In the 2025 Indian Premier League, Gill is currently leading the Gujarat Titans (GT), and the team has advanced to the playoffs. His arrival in England might be postponed because the IPL final is scheduled for June 3. Prior to the two-month tour, the team management has made the decision to give him some time off. He may possibly postpone joining the India A team because of his hitting partner at GT, B. Sai Sudharsan.
